Kamanon (Nobuko Kamatani)'s Commitment

The lotus, which stretches its stems gracefully even from the mud and blooms with beautiful flowers, has been revered since ancient times as a plant that embodies a strong yet supple vitality.
These “botany paintings” are works of art created by specially treating natural lotus leaves for painting, mounting them on panels, and applying color.

The process begins by engaging with the lotus leaves. Each leaf possesses its own unique character and distinct expression. By responding to their individual qualities, combining them, and mounting them, the foundation for a single painting is established.

Next, I apply color to these lotus leaves.
Through a dialogue with each leaf, I carefully layer colors to imbue the surface with a sense of transparency and the vibrant energy inherent in color.

I aim to create paintings that, when casually glimpsed in daily life, resonate with the viewer’s heart, melt away physical and mental tension, and evoke a sense of excitement and relief…
I strive to create paintings that offer such moments of healing.

Exhibited Works

Rejoice—Radiant Blossoms—
Dimensions: 410 × 410 × 200 mm
¥107,800 (tax included)

Lotus Leaves / Rubber Tree Leaves / Acrylic Paint / Wooden Panel / With Acrylic Cover
“Rejoice - Radiant Blossoms” Joy welling up from the heart, like flowers in full bloom. The overlapping lotus leaves, each with its own unique expression and character, are filled with great hope and joy for the future. Guided by the theme of these small leaves leading from the past into the future, I created this work by layering colors repeatedly to take full advantage of the transparency unique to acrylic paint. My goal was to produce a piece that, while possessing depth, also exudes a sense of vitality, bringing healing and a sense of excitement to the viewer’s heart. I would be delighted if this work resonates quietly within your heart as well.

Yubi
Dimensions: 240 × 240 × 200 mm
¥33,000 (tax included)

Lotus Leaf, Acrylic Paint, Wooden Panel / No Acrylic Cover
A Color That Heals Both Mind and Body: [Lavender] In the world of Shinto and Buddhism, lotus leaves are said to have a purifying effect on both the mind and body. I envisioned this piece as a work that, combined with the psychological effects of the color lavender—regeneration, rest, and gentleness—would wash away the tension of the day and provide a healing moment to reflect on one’s inner self.

Reimei
Dimensions: 240 × 240 × 200 mm
¥33,000 (tax included)

Lotus leaves, acrylic paint, wooden panel / no acrylic cover
Dawn... the break of day. The beginning of a new era. Amidst the comforting darkness and stillness, a new light of hope gradually begins to appear. And it gently nudges my back as I set out on my journey. I painted this piece with those feelings in mind.
